No One Left Behind

It is normal to want to win your loved ones over to Christ and have them give their lives to Him. After all, being a part of the body of Christ is a wonderful feeling. Knowing that you are a new creation because of your commitment to Christ is just the beginning though. How can you approach the conversation with unbelievers without turning them off? Talking to them about this can be difficult, but don’t let that discourage you from trying. Here are a few ways that can help you.

Start Small & Gradually Progress

An important thing to remember is to take small steps to introduce an unbeliever to Christ. Don’t try to explain deep revelations to them about the Lord and expect them to grasp a hold of it. In 1 Corinthians 3:1-2 it states, “Dear brothers and sisters, when I was with you I couldn’t talk to you as I would to spiritual people. I had to talk as though you belonged to this world or as though you were infants in the Christian life. I had to feed you with milk, not with solid food, because you weren’t ready for anything stronger…” (NLT).

When babies are born you don’t fix them a big dinner plate of steak and potatoes. This is unheard of. One reason is they don’t have any teeth to chew hard food and even if they did their digestive system isn’t developed enough to hold it down. They would spit it up.

This is a concept that we must grasp as believers when conversating with unbelievers for the first time. It is spiritually unrealistic to expect them to be able to understand deep revelations of God that may seem simple to you.

Start off explaining basic scriptures to them such as John 3:16 “For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” (NLT). As time progresses, you can begin to move on to deeper things of the Spirit.

Don’t Force Them

Commonly, we are concerned for our loved ones who are unbelievers and want to try and push them to Christ or force them through scare tactics. This is not always effective though and as a result can push them even further into rebellion and away from the Lord. Look at what Jesus said. “For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:30. This is the Lord’s Word, receiving Him isn’t strenuous or stressful. In fact, it is the exact opposite and why you shouldn’t force Him on anyone. Jesus never forced anyone to follow him. We all were given free will.

Passion

When explaining Christ to others be enthusiastic. Be passionate. Be Joyful. How can you expect someone else to receive Christ if you are not excited about Him? Talk about your personal experiences with God’s goodness. It will be genuine and easy for you to get excited about. Say what comes naturally and let the Holy Spirit lead you.

Leading others to the Lord can be challenging and nerve racking but if the outcome is a soul won for Jesus, it’s worth it! Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you and tell you what to say before you approach your loved one. Pray that God will soften your loved one’s heart and remember to walk in love. God may already be drawing this person to Him, He just wants to give you the opportunity to share his infinite love with someone else who needs Him too.
