Reading the Bible is an essential step in your growth in knowledge, wisdom, and revelation. It’s quite simple, if you are yearning to cultivate these areas reading your Bible is a must. When reading the Word of God (Bible) you must take a different approach then you would when reading an ordinary novel or magazine. Meaning you need to read with patience, comprehension and the Holy Spirit.
Take Your Time
How fast you read the Bible doesn’t hold any value. It’s not a race to read from “Genesis” to “Revelation.” It’s more important to receive insight of what your reading. As a result, you may be on the same chapter for days before you move on. This takes patience. Every scripture in the Bible is filled with layers of revelation on top of each other. You may read a scripture once and understand it, then later you read that same scripture and get a different understanding.
Which one is correct, you might wonder? They both are! These are the type of experiences you will have when you read with the Holy Spirit. John 14:26 says, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.” The Holy Spirit is your helper and teacher. It is by Him we can have understanding and limitless revelation of the Word of God.
Consistency
The next key to studying your Bible is consistency. It is vital to read the Word every day. Think of it as learning a new language. If you don’t practice it daily you it will be difficult to learn and you will become less motivated to stay committed. The same is with the Bible. The more you read the easier it becomes to understand. You will find yourself filled with more strength and wisdom. Create a pattern, a time schedule, that works best for you. Even if you don’t read as much as you did the day before make an effort to read something. Doing this will create discipline, which will lead to a habit. Before you know it, you won’t want to miss a day.
Create Discussion
It’s always easier to do things when others are doing it. Get involved with others reading the Bible. Maybe a study group, a friend, or you spouse. Discuss the things you have read with on another. Ask each other questions and share the revelations that have been unveiled to you. By doing so, you will be motivating and inspiring each other to do more. Also this will cause you’ll to grow in the Lord together pushing each other to continue in learning.
