Godfidence

What an awesome feeling to know that God is in control and we don’t have to want for anything. It’s truly never too early to share the joy of praising God with your children and the confidence that comes in knowing that our Heavenly Father has got our back. Lately, I have been hearing the term Godfidence to describe this feeling that believers often have. I love this word because, to me, it describes that exact feeling you get when you just know that everything is working out for your good. Children need this feeling too so here are a few ways to build your kid’s Godfidence.

Bible Study. Between homework, piano lesson and basketball practice it can be difficult to squeeze in quality time for you and your little one to spend talking about Jesus. Try building short devotionals into things that you are going to do already like bath time or after school snack. The story of David and Goliath, Daniel in the Lion’s Den and Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego are all excellent stories that are all about being confident in God. Trade out a regular bedtime story for a Bible story. Sharing a Bible story or scripture over breakfast or on the car ride to school can make for a better day both of you.

Lead by example. It is important for us as parents to monitor our actions so our kids have Godly examples to mirror. This starts with us submerging ourselves into the Word. Search out scriptures that highlight God’s strength and power to let your little one know that they can be confident in the Lord. Self-confidence to the believer is really about our confidence in God. We can be confident in ourselves because we have Christ living inside of us and that is where true confidence lies. The closer we get to Him the less worry, anxiety and fear we have. Share verses with them about how special they are to Him. Explaining this concept to your child and equipping them with simple Bible verses to refer to will make them strong and give them a positive attitude. As we become more confident in God’s ability, it will show not only around our children, but to others as well.

Have a praise party. That’s right! Take of your shoes, turn on some worship music and dance! Let your child see you enjoy yourself in the Lord and thank Him for his goodness. You could have a praise party because baby girl made honor roll or made the winning shot at the basketball game or you can have a praise party for no reason other than to give God his due praise. It’s a great work out, it’s free and best of all a precursor to nap time. Plus, the Bible tells us in Proverbs 15:13 that “A happy heart makes the face cheerful…” Happy kids are confident kids. What could be happier than sharing the joy of the Lord with your child during your very own living room celebration?

And there you have it! These are simple, yet effective ways to build up Godfidence and help your little ones create an atmosphere of praise, joy and assurance that nothing else can match.
